The role

The Senior Child Protection Program Manager will be the responsible for the child protection components of all CAT-2 projects in Ituri province. In addition to providing technical oversight and orientation to implementing teams, the incumbent will also be responsible for monitoring of project indicators, procurements and budgets for concerned projects. He/she will be requested to provide regular updates to the FM, the DPO/Humanitarian Director, and participate in member and donor calls as necessary. He/She will also be responsible for attending or delegating a participant to all coordination meetings pertaining to CP in Ituri Provice. Finally, the incumbent will be responsible for coordinating reporting on existing projects and contributing to proposal identification and development for new opportunities.

Qualifications and experience


  • Significant prior experience of working within a Child Protection program management role within a complex country programme in an emergency response or fragile state
  • Previous experience of working in large-scale first phase emergency response
  • Education to Masters level in Social Work, Human Rights Law, International Relations, Development Studies or similar, or equivalent field experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of and experience in using the Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action together with other established inter-agency standards and guidelines in child protection.
  • Extensive experience in capacity building and in strengthening various duty bearers understanding of and response to child protection.
  • Previous experience of managing a large team of national staff
  • Previous experience of programme management across multiple locations
  • Commitment to, thorough understanding of, and able to train staff in child protection, participation and accountability approaches
  • Demonstrated ability to set up monitoring & evaluation systems in large complex programmes.
  • Demonstrated ability to set up learning and development processes for a large team
  • Proven ability of mentoring and coaching.
  • Experience of senior level representation
  • Experience of negotiating successful partnerships with institutional donors
  • Experience of working with and supporting local partners
  • Ability to write clear and well-argued assessment and project reports
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proven ability to influence change at an operational and strategic level.
  • Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
  • Fluently in French, including a high level of written and spoken French
  • The capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances.
  • Commitment to and understanding of child rights, the aims and principles of SC, and humanitarian standards such as the Sphere Charter and the Code of Conduct. In particular, a good understanding of the SC mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support



  • Language skills in English. Swahili a plus
  • Previous experience in SGBV programming
  • Good working knowledge of the Inter-Agency Child Protection Information Management System
  • Experience or knowledge of working and living in relevant regions/contexts
  • Specific experience of designing and managing BHA, GAC, ECHO and other major donor projects

Contract length:

12 Months
